What makes a great website?

Posted on May 13, 2011

Swansea-based website designers, Accent ADC, have the website experience, knowledge and creative flair to ensure that your website is not simply aesthetically pleasing, but communicates your message clearly and concisely to the end user. A great website should be intuitive and engaging, relevant and user-friendly.

Focus

In this high speed age of technological advance, it’s vital to ensure the user is able to access the information they need as quickly and easily as possible. We live in an age of increasingly demanding consumers with short attention spans, who simply don’t have the time or the inclination to trawl through masses of irrelevant data, and why should they? If your website is user focused and organised, you’ll be able to grab their attention immediately and hold their interest while they browse your site.

Impact

Creating the right visual impact should not be underestimated. The best websites have been designed and built to look attractive as well as being functional and informative. Your home page needs to draw the user in, they will see the beauty before the function. Our Swansea based design team love getting their teeth into new projects, especially the challenging and constantly evolving medium of web design. Understanding your target market, your company goals and objectives, your desires for the future, your approach to your customers, are all imperative in designing the perfect website.

Clarity

It’s all about communication. What are you trying to say? What is your business all about? We understand the value of your brand image and the importance of protecting and enhancing your credibility through good design. We work incredibly hard to promote the reputation you work so hard to build. A great website will serve as proof of your professionalism, it says your business can be trusted.

Ever-changing

Websites take on a life of their own, they are constantly evolving to keep up with technological advances, demands of consumers, threat of competition, legislation, and of course changes within your own business. The best websites will not walk before they can crawl, but will certainly keep pace with the world around them. Our Content Managed Systems (CMS) allow clients to update their own websites, making it easy to edit and add new data, images, news articles and other posts.

Riding High in the Rankings

Some will see Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) as a necessary evil, a technological minefield. And they’re not altogether wrong! It certainly poses challenges to website designers with clients desperate to reach number one spots with Google and other major players. Of course, there is no magic wand and it can cost a fortune to achieve quick results, but there are several ways to improve your ratings without remortgaging your house. We ensure all our websites contain suitable key words, tags, links, etc and we register all new sites once completed. We’ll provide lots of good advice to start you in the right direction and find the best promotion tool for your website. But, basically, it comes down to love and attention. If you regularly spend a little time on your website, posting unique and informative articles, you’ll be surprised how responsive search engines can be.

So, in summary, a great website must be:

• Attractive and engaging

• Interesting, informative and relevant

• User focused and simple to navigate

• Able to move with the times

• Easy to find on the web

Design made Easi!

easikit-cover

Engineering firm Beaufort Conveyors, producers of modular kits of conveyors, asked Accent to redesign their Easikit branding. The Easikit range is the company’s flagship product for various building and engineering projects so it needed a distinct and contemporary look for the brand to stand out in an increasingly competitive market.

Accent has worked with Beaufort Conveyors for many years since they first established themselves in Swansea, so we had a good working knowledge of what was needed. The distinctive black and yellow branding was used across a variety of items such as brochures, postcards, stationery and, of course, the website. The Easikit brand has gone from strength to strength in the last 12 months and is proving to be one of the leaders in the conveyor market.

Shelter Cymru Leaving Care Booklet

People and Homes charity, Shelter Cymru commissioned Accent to produce their new ‘Leaving Care and Moving On’ booklet. It’s designed as a guide for young people who are leaving care and setting up on their own for the first time, giving advice on housing options, money matters and much more.

The bilingual, CD–sized booklet is aimed at a younger audience hence the fresh, urban approach taken with the overall design. The booklet reinforces the style that Accent introduced with the previous Right Track Pack and Housemate publications.

It was also a great opportunity to show off the beautiful Gower and south west Wales area using some of our own photography. The redesign proved successful and they are already planning next year’s brochure.

World Graphics Day is celebrated on April 27, the Anniversary of the founding of Icograda, the world body for graphic design, in 1963. It is a day to celebrate the profession of graphic and communication design. The day has been celebrated since 1995. Our custom-designed interior and exterior signs are constructed using the highest quality materials and workmanship. We provide a creative, graphic design service, including 3D conceptual visuals showing your sign in-situ prior to production. All signs are finished and mounted to the highest standard by highly qualified installers.

Llys Glas Swansea
The ‘Old Police Station’ completely refurbished by Gwalia Group for student accommodation needed clear signage for the interior and exterior of this distinctive listed Victorian building. Our brief was to design clear signs which reflect the modern and stylish interiors and courtyard areas. We achieved this by adopting complimentary pastel colours in discrete bars formalising yet lightening the impression of what are purely present for information.

Plantasia
Accent produced full colour UV resistant exterior, interior and back lit signs for the Swansea City Council flagship visitor attraction. The environmental extremes from arid to tropical mean that the interior signs placed among the living plants, have to be resistant to heat, cold and extremes of wet and dry.

Trojan Electronics
Expansion into a new purpose-designed factory unit extending the capacity of this international electronics recycling and refurbishment company necessitated a branding exercise which included adding more signage.

CHC House, SLR and Toshiba
Three companies occupying units in the same building, all requiring branding! Accent produced the designs, the signs and co-ordinated the fixing on site the same day.

Seethelight
Creation of two signs for an national fibre-optic broadband installation company, completely LED illuminated, built up flat faced de-scaled stainless steel with clear back trays moulded in acrylic. Located in the rapidly growing business zone at Ocean Park, Cardiff.

Siop Ty Tawe (Tawe House Shop)
The ‘local shop for local people’ and souvenir hunters world wide visit this unique Welsh organisation selling Welsh products and promoting Welsh culture in the Swansea area and bringing together Welsh speakers and learners.
